SUMMARY:North Main St. Sidewalk Project Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City of Harrisonburg Public Works Department will host a public open house on Wednesday\, February 5\, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center to discuss upcoming improvements along North Main Street. \nThe project aims to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety by constructing sidewalks on both sides of North Main Street between Charles Street and Vine Street\, filling critical gaps in the existing sidewalk network. When completed\, the project will provide uninterrupted sidewalk connectivity from Harrisonburg’s northern city limit to Downtown. \nKey improvements include widening the road to accommodate bike lanes between Holly Hill Drive and Vine Street\, and installing pedestrian signals\, ramps\, and crosswalks at the Vine Street/Mt. Clinton Pike intersection. The project\, funded through VDOT’s SMART SCALE program\, represents a significant investment in the city’s active transportation infrastructure. \nCommunity members are encouraged to attend the open house to review project plans\, ask questions\, and provide feedback. Those unable to attend can participate through an online questionnaire available until March 5\, 2025.
