On October 10th the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) announced that its new Virginia Trip Planner was ready for use.
The Trip Planner tool is designed to be multimodal in nature, covering trips made by rail, bus, carpools, vanpools, bikeshares, and walking. The interactive online map allows users to access a statewide database of transportation options around the Commonwealth including rural communities that don’t have traditional fixed route services.
The Trip Planner is available on DRPT’s ConnectingVA website. The website shares how to download the ConnectingVA Trip Planner and Rewards mobile app, provides information on public transportation services, and instructions on how users can connect with commuter assistance program staff and local mobility managers throughout the Commonwealth. The Virginia Trip Planner builds off of DRPT’s previous efforts to create the Virginia Transportation Navigator. Like the Virginia Transportation Navigator, the Trip Planner was funded through the Innovative Coordinated Acess and Moblity (ICAM) grant. DRPT partnered with GTFS development leaders, Trillium Transit, and AgileMile to create the Trip Planner and hired Kimley Horn, planning and design engineering consultants, to manage the project.
